Western Region Tasmania

west-coast-lake

The West of Tasmania is a wild and isolated place, with a high annual rainfall and sparse population.

There are just a handful of small towns, some of which have fallen on hard times due to mine closures.  That might sound a bit grim, but the West Coast is a great place to visit, particularly on a motorbike.

The roads are twisty, even by Tasmanian standards and traffic is not heavy.  Some roads are so good you will want to turn around and do them again!

With up to 300 days of rain every year, be prepared for wet weather in any season.  Even though it’s often a bit damp, the roads are built from a purple-tinged, local blue metal that remains quite grippy in the wet.

If you’re here for more than a day or two you will probably get to test your wet weather riding skills.

Strahan and Queenstown are the two most popular destinations with numerous accommodation options.

Day rides and loops from both towns are guaranteed to get you leaning over and honing your riding skills.

The west is remote, but beautiful.  There is no other place in the country like the West Coast of Tasmania and you will enjoy the unique experience.
