Central Tasmania
The Central Region of Tasmania is a remote and sparsely populated, mountainous area with a few small settlements and limited facilities.
And, some of the most spectacular scenery on the island.
There are thousands of lakes on the Central Plateau and well known destinations such as Cradle Mountain and other national parks.
Years ago the area was only visited by Hydro workers and lost tourists, but these days the Central Region has higher visitor numbers and a lot to offer the motorcycle tourer.
Even though there are no large towns, the roads are in good condition and take you through a variety of landscapes.
You will pass through the Central Region heading from Hobart to Queenstown, or taking one of the alternative routes from Launceston to Hobart.
There are enough fuel stops to keep you going and enough wild scenery to make it worthwhile.
